An unsurprising Met Office flood warning issued for the North West.
If you live in the North West of England and happened to have peaked outside at the weather this morning, it may come as no surprise that the Met Office has issued a sever weather warning for the region.
The Met Office predicts up to 60mm to 100mm of rainfall for parts of Greater Manchester, Lancashire and Merseyside. As I type this blog, I can hear the constant drumming of the rain bouncing off the roof and wonder if I will need a boat to get home tonight instead of my car.
According to the Environment Agency, the heavy rain may lead to surface water and the flooding of roads and land. The Government agency has warned people who live in North Cheshire, the Wirral, Greater Manchester, Lancashire and Liverpool to be prepared for the rain to cause flooding for 24 hours until Saturday. My question has been answered, boat it is.
10mm to 20mm of rain has already fell across the North West overnight and Central and Southern Scotland have been hit badly. The weather warnings bring back memories of the devastating flooding recently experience in West Wales. Could it be North West England’s time to deal with the ever abnormal weather conditions? May I remind you in case you’re mistaken, we are in June, not January.
The Environment Agency has sent teams to check the North West’s flood defences and clear river blockages to try and monitor river levels and reduce the risk of flooding. People are being urged to stay away from swollen rivers and not to drive through floodwater.
If your concerned about the risk of flooding, you can contact the Environment Agency Floodline on this number 0845 988 1188 however, if you wish to register your boat, please click HERE
