New eco style homes set in Cornwall

When we think of a typical eco home, we think of the ugly building which represents something similar to a spaceship, yet these new buildings in Rocky Lane, Cornwall are innovative, stylish, modern and attractive to the eye.
Rocky Lane lies within an UNESCO World Heritage Site set in 3.5 acres of St Agnes woodland with beautiful views of the Trevanance Cove on Cornwalls spectacular North coastline. Each of the ten properties are individually designed and the first phase of homes have already been sold and the second phase is up for sale between a staggering £295,000 for a one bed room house to £650,000 for a four bed room house but the properties are exempt from Stamp Duty.
The houses energy saving features include; air source heat pumps, super insulation, energy efficient windows and passive ventilation. They are built with a timber wood frame construction which boasts the lowest CO2 cost of any commercially available building material as timber is a sustainable source. The result of this is that all of Rocky Lane’s homes are so thermally efficient they pass the current building regulations by 44%!
The architects of the dwellings are Turkel Design and each of the properties are being advertised as second homes so owners will be able to let them out if desired.
We have an exclusive quote from the developer behind Rocky Lane, Simon Blackburn from Living Structures UK who says; ‘At Rocky Lane we have spent a long time considering the unspoilt and special nature of the location and therefore taken great care to minimise the impact of the development on the environment, ensuring the homes complement and respect their surroundings. The inclusion of many innovative energy saving features will mean lower utility bills for residents, which is always a welcome given increasing energy costs.’
So what do you think of the new style eco accommodation and could you see the future of housing being based on these designs and appearing on streets across the country?
