Apprentices needed for the Green Deal
The Green Deal has been created by the government to renovate millions of energy inefficient domestic and non domestic properties all over the UK. The scheme is set to begin this autumn and is estimated to support 65,000 jobs by 2015 which includes 1,000 Apprentices.
Through the Green Deal Alliance, the Government want to provide a high standard training for young aspiring individuals who want to be part of the construction industry and become installers of insulation, with a £3.5million pound fund to do so with. The Government wants fully, freshly trained Apprentices because of the huge challenges facing the Green Deal which includes the installation of exterior solid wall insulation, which is set to be the core to the success of the project.
The Director of the Association of the Conservation of Energy Andrew Warren, who normally criticizes the government's action on energy efficiency, spoke to EAERN and said; ‘Whilst the energy efficiency industry has a proud track record on training, it is excellent news that the enormous size of the task before us is being recognised by the secretary of state in such an immensely practical way’.
The training will be provided by the Sector Skills Council on behalf of the Green deal Alliance which is made up of several existing groups such as Asset Skills, Constructions Skills and Summit Skills.
This project is also aimed to help the lack of awareness of how green technologies can help improve energy efficiency in properties. Currently, 18% of the UK’s total carbon emissions come from non domestic buildings such as schools, offices and shops which is set to be changed with the help of the Green Deal.
