Face lift for Clayton Square thanks to Boots
Clayton Square Shopping Centre located in Liverpool City Centre has secured a multi-million pound revamp deal thanks to the well-known, high street store Boots UK wanting to create a flagship store inside the mall.
Boots UK wish to create a 60,000 square foot store inside Clayton Square in conjunction with InfraRed Capital Partners who own the shopping centre. Boots UK isn’t the only large company that are perusing the revamp of Clayton Square for the major DIY and homeware retailer, Clas Ohlson are also moving into the shopping centre once the work has been completed.
Cayton Square shopping centre is due to be completed in October 2014 by the architects, Benoy. They will create a new triple height, single trading mall where the internal escalators will be removed to provide a clear view through the shopping centre from Central Station to St Johns Shopping Centre. This will mean the entrance to the shopping centre will close on Church Street but this will allow three new units to be created along this side.
In total, the two shopping centres have a combined footfall of over 21 million people per year which is surprisingly good considering other areas of Liverpool have suffered because of the Liverpool One development which opened in 2008. However, it seems that Clayton Square suffered the most out of the two shopping centres because it caters for the middle market shoppers as does Liverpool One whereas St Johns Shopping Centre provides shops for those that buy from the bargain end of the market.
InfraRed Capital Partners own both Clayton Square and St Johns Shopping Centre and they have already invested £4 million to improve St Johns Shopping Centre and are set to spend another £2 million on further improvements. They plan to renovate all internal areas which includes the replacement of the ceilings, floors and lighting. This is a much needed renovation because most of the interior has been unchanged for over 25 years.
