Comments : The Old Trafford Master Plan housing project
Trafford Council and Trafford Housing are working together on the latest housing project named the Old Trafford Master Plan. The development would include social housing and private housing as well as a wide scale community regeneration including environmental improvements.
The scheme will include 29 houses and 33 two bedroom flats designed to be affordable when rented out. The Old Trafford Mast Plan is set to be completed in 10 years with the first 100 properties to be completed by 2014 as part of the Tamworth Estate where four tower blocks are set to be demolished shortly to make way for the new properties.
The Old Trafford area is in desperate need of redevelopment and is one of the inner city neighbourhoods that is currently part of the top 10% of the UK’s most deprived areas. These areas include a high number of unemployment, higher crime rates and overcrowding but the regeneration project aims to build a strong community spirit.
The Old Trafford Mast Plan will incorporate safer walking and cycling routes with new community facilities, designed to improve youth provisions and enhance green spaces in the area. The project was officially launched yesterday with a ceremonial stone which was laid within the bricks of the first house on the new Essex Way.
