Comments : Where is the happiest place to live in Britain?
Have you ever wondered if you live in the happiest place in Britain? Do you think your town or village could be in with a chance of being crowed the winner of the happiest place to live in Britain award? Well, here’s the criteria if you think your neighbourhood is the happiest place to live in Britain!
This survey is hosted by Rightmove and asks people how they feel about aspects of their home life in 12 questions which include the following;
- Space – are you happy with how much space you have around you?
- Home – are you content with your home?
- Safety – how safe do you feel in your neighbourhood?
- Enjoyment – do you enjoy spending your free time in your town?
How would you answer these questions?
Almost 50,000 people took part in Rightmoves survey this year and the nominations have been read, counted and found that the spa town of Harrogate in North Yorkshire is the happiest place to live in Britain! Congratulations Harrogate with your friendly, welcoming atmosphere, the people of your town believe they are living in the happiest town in Britain! This is not the first time Harrogate has been voted the happiest place to live in Britain because this popular town with its unique combination of shops and restaurants along with its culture and public space also won this award in 2013!
Have you ever wondered what it is like to live in the happiest town in Britain? Well, if you were to find out then I am afraid it comes at a hefty price. According to a local estate agent from Dacre Son & Hartley, the average two bedroom property costs around £150,000 which is expensive for the North of England. Paul Baxter from Dacre Son & Hartley stated that to live in Harrogate; ‘it's as expensive as it gets in the north of England with the exception of footballers' row in Manchester.’
Now, to the other end of the scale, do you think you live in the least happiest place in Britain? Well, if you live in East London including Ilford, Twickenham, Croydon, Harrow and East Central London then your area was placed at the bottom of the list at 111th place. It seems that the feel good legacy of the Olympic Games has died and not left smiles upon the faces of those who live nearby. The voters who took part in the survey believe that East London does not have any neighbourliness and they are also the least satisfied by their homes. The people who live in Croydon even admitted believing that their area is the least safest place to live in Britain.
However, it’s not all bad news for London as the areas of Guildford and St Albans located on the commuter belt were voted 12th and 13th place in survey for the happiest place to live in Britain. The town of Newport in South Wales also made an appearance in the top 50 of the happiest place to live in Britain placed at number 42 which is higher than Oxford and Cambridge which ranked at 44th and 59th place.
