Newton-le-Willows will see the development of 142 new houses after St Helens Council gave the green light for the new development.
Housing developer Taylor Wimpey will provide a mixture of detached and semi-detached properties on 4.87 hectares of land to the west of Common Road. The land was allocated for residential development in the St Helens Unitary Development Plan.
A recent assessment carried out by independent assessors found a requirement for more housing in all key settlements within the borough, in order to create a wider choice and greater affordability for existing local residents and also people looking to move into the area.
St Helens Council’s Cabinet Member for Growth, Councillor John Fulham said “Granting approval for new houses helps families to get on the housing ladder while helping build the local economy, so I am delighted that this application has been approved. This is a small step in the right direction to securing a wide selection of housing stock, from starter homes to specialist homes such as bungalows and lifetime homes”.
Work on the development is expected to start in the very near future.
